More Than Just Looks: Understanding How Small Hardware Details Impact Your Daily Routine and Overall Comfort.

Functional Elegance: The Micro-Details of Your Daily Routine

In the grand scheme of a bathroom remodel, it's easy to overlook the small details...the humble toilet paper holder, the hand towel ring, the towel bar. Yet, these are the pieces of hardware you interact with most frequently throughout the day. At Ekon Bath, we believe that truly functional elegance lies in a design that supports your daily routine so seamlessly, you never have to think about it.

Research shows that the average person spends a significant amount of time in their bathroom each day. This means that the flow and functionality of the space, no matter how small, should be a priority. Our design philosophy is based on the "unconscious choreography" of your daily habits, and the hardware you choose plays a starring role.

The Dominant Hand Principle: A Key to Effortless Design

One of the most important factors we consider is the user's dominant hand. It may seem like a small detail, but it makes a world of difference. The toilet paper holder, for example, should be placed within intuitive reach of your dominant hand, ensuring a natural, fluid motion. Similarly, the hand towel ring or hook should be positioned logically next to the sink, making it effortless to dry your hands.

This is a principle that goes beyond aesthetics. It's about designing a space that feels personal, comfortable, and intuitive to you.

Toilet Paper Holders: Beyond the Basics

Gone are the days when a toilet paper holder was a one-size-fits-all solution. Your choice of style can enhance both functionality and design:

  • Standard Holders: These are the classic, spring-loaded roller bars. They are simple, functional, and come in a wide range of finishes.
  • Pivoting Holders: A great option that makes changing the toilet paper roll incredibly easy. The bar simply swings up, so you don't have to deal with a spring.
  • Open Arm Holders: For a modern, minimalist look, an open arm holder is sleek and convenient. The arm holds the roll, making it easy to slide it on and off.
  • Wall-Mounted & Vertical: We also see options that are mounted directly to the wall and hold an extra roll, providing smart storage and a contemporary feel.

Towel Hardware: Rings, Bars, and Hooks

The hardware you use for your towels should also align with the size of your bathroom and your personal routine:

  • Towel Rings: A great choice for smaller bathrooms or next to the vanity, where a hand towel is needed. They are compact and stylish.
  • Towel Bars: More traditional and elegant, towel bars are perfect for hanging larger bath towels. They also allow the towel to dry more quickly and evenly, which is a great benefit for busy homes.
  • Hooks: For a modern, minimalist look, hooks are an incredibly versatile option. They can be used for bath towels, robes, or even hand towels, saving space and providing a clean aesthetic.

Tying It All Together with Finishes

The finish of your hardware is what truly brings the look together. As we've discussed before, your hardware is the "jewelry" of your bathroom. The finish should match or complement your other fixtures, such as your faucets, showerhead, and lighting. Whether it's the sleek, modern look of matte black, the warm, lived-in feel of brushed nickel, or the classic elegance of chrome, every piece should contribute to a cohesive design.

At Ekon Bath, we consider every detail, from the material of your countertops to the placement of your towel hook. We believe that true luxury is about a space that is not only beautiful but also meticulously designed to serve you in every way.

Can you turn a 1980s bathtub into a luxury Art Deco shower? Yes. By combining custom architectural arches, high-flow plumbing for 13 water outlets, and specialized "aging-in-place" safety features, you can transform a dated bathroom into a spa-like "rainforest" sanctuary that increases home value and personal comfort. The Vision: More Than Just a Bathroom When I first met Griff Hubbard through the Rotary Club of Longview, I knew his project would be special. Griff is a man of history, particularly railroad history, and his home reflects that soul. He didn't just want a new shower; he wanted the "crowning achievement" of his home—a space that felt like an Art Deco rainforest. To truly understand Griff’s vision, I did something most contractors don't: I listened to his railroad history podcasts. This allowed us to build a design that wasn't just functional, but deeply personal. Engineering the "Rainforest" Experience The centerpiece of this transformation is the "Rainforest" shower system. To achieve this level of luxury, we had to overcome significant technical hurdles: 13 Water Outlets: We installed a massive array of body sprayers and the largest rain head Ekon Bath has ever commissioned. High-Volume Plumbing: Most older homes aren't built for this much water. We coordinated with specialists to ensure the water pressure and hot water capacity could handle the "rainforest" flow. Custom Art Deco Hardware: When standard handles didn't fit the 1920s aesthetic, we sourced custom hardware and even had a machine shop create a bespoke Art Deco drain cover. Design Details: Where History Meets Luxury Griff’s bathroom is a masterclass in Art Deco design . We replaced the standard square shower entry with a striking architectural archway . This creates a sense of "arriving" at a destination rather than just stepping into a shower. We also prioritized "Aging in Space" —a core value at Ekon Bath. While the shower looks like a high-end spa, it secretly includes reinforced support behind the walls for future safety features, ensuring Griff can enjoy this sanctuary for the next 40 years. The Ekon "Red Carpet" Experience At Ekon Bath, we believe the process should be as beautiful as the result. For Griff, that meant: Daily Cleanliness: We vacuumed and dusted every single afternoon so Griff could live comfortably during the renovation. Above and Beyond: To finish the job, we didn't just clean the bathroom; we power-washed his back patio to leave his entire home better than we found it.
