In the previous parts of our series, we covered the Walk-in Shower and the high-impact Facelift. Now, we dive into the most comprehensive project we undertake: The Full Bathroom Transformation.
This is the process where walls move, layouts shift, and every element...down to the studs...is optimized. This level of renovation is ideal for clients who want to completely reimagine their space, allowing for layout changes, advanced lighting design, and the integration of complex luxury features. Phase 1: Wall Re-Layout and Rough-In
This phase is where we unlock the potential of your space, often involving the most complex structural work.
- Surgical Demolition & Debris Management: We meticulously implement extensive floor protection and utilize HEPA vacuum filtration to control dust migration. Demolition is surgical: we remove existing fixtures, flooring, and even demolish internal dividing walls to create the open, seamless floor plan you desire. All waste is managed via a dedicated on-site trailer.
- Framing & New Layout: We frame all new walls according to the design requirements. We modify the entrances to accommodate door openings for maximum accessibility.
- Plumbing & Electrical Rerouting: We execute a complete rough-in, rerouting all drain and water supply lines to new locations for the vanity, soaker tub, and toilet. Electrical rough-in includes wiring for new LED can lights (including wet-rated shower lights) and integrating dedicated power for accessories (ex. Heated Towel Rack, Heated Floors, Additional Outlets, etc).

- Drywall & Texture: We install new 1/2-inch moisture-resistant drywall on all new walls and in areas affected by demolition. This is followed by professional taping, bedding, and finishing to a texture finish of your choosing, ensuring seamless walls ready for paint.
- Ventilation & Comfort: We install the new heater/light/vent combo, carefully ensuring it is rated for the proper CFM, optimizing airflow and comfort.
- Waterproofing Integrity: We apply our comprehensive waterproofing system to all wet areas, creating the sealed, professional barrier that guarantees the longevity and leak-proof nature of your new walk-in shower and floor space(per design requirements).
Phase 3: Finish Installation & Final Details
This is the high-impact phase where all the custom selections come together to create your masterpiece.
- Cabinetry Installation: We install your new custom vanity, all featuring soft-closing doors and drawers.
- Walk-in Shower System: We install will your Custom Tile or Single Panel Shower system, including the shower base, wall panels, niches, and integrated grab bars. We install your high-end shower plumbing fixtures, such as, wall-mounted shower-head, rain shower heads, steam generators, and body sprayers.
- Flooring & Baseboard: We prefer to install large-format porcelain tile on the master bathroom floor with tight grout spacing for a sleek and low-maintenance experience. New baseboards are installed to match your existing home profile(Or Design Requirements).
- Paint & Lighting: All bathroom walls and ceilings are primed and painted (Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore). We install all new light fixtures, including can lights and specialty vanity lighting.
- Hardware & Fixtures: We install all final vanity faucets, mirrors, toilet, and accessory hardware (towel rods, toilet paper holders), completing the functional elegance of the space.

To truly understand Griff’s vision, I did something most contractors don't: I listened to his railroad history podcasts. This allowed us to build a design that wasn't just functional, but deeply personal. Engineering the "Rainforest" Experience The centerpiece of this transformation is the "Rainforest" shower system. To achieve this level of luxury, we had to overcome significant technical hurdles: 13 Water Outlets: We installed a massive array of body sprayers and the largest rain head Ekon Bath has ever commissioned. High-Volume Plumbing: Most older homes aren't built for this much water. We coordinated with specialists to ensure the water pressure and hot water capacity could handle the "rainforest" flow. Custom Art Deco Hardware: When standard handles didn't fit the 1920s aesthetic, we sourced custom hardware and even had a machine shop create a bespoke Art Deco drain cover. Design Details: Where History Meets Luxury Griff’s bathroom is a masterclass in Art Deco design . We replaced the standard square shower entry with a striking architectural archway . This creates a sense of "arriving" at a destination rather than just stepping into a shower. We also prioritized "Aging in Space" —a core value at Ekon Bath. While the shower looks like a high-end spa, it secretly includes reinforced support behind the walls for future safety features, ensuring Griff can enjoy this sanctuary for the next 40 years.
