A Simple Guide to the Entire Bathroom Remodeling Process, from Your Vision to the Final Reveal.

Planning Your Perfect Bathroom Remodel: A Step-by-Step Guide

Over the past several weeks, we’ve taken a deep dive into the micro-details that make a world of difference in a bathroom remodel—from framing and finishes to heated floors and smart toilets. Now, let’s tie it all together and give you a clear, step-by-step guide to what a full bathroom renovation looks like with Ekon Bath.

The remodeling process can seem overwhelming, but we believe in transparency and communication. Our goal is to empower you with knowledge so you can feel confident and excited at every stage of your project.

Phase 1: The Vision & Design

This phase is all about bringing your ideas to life and creating a solid blueprint for your project.

  • Initial Consultation: The process begins with a conversation. We take the time to understand your lifestyle, your design preferences, and your specific needs, such as safety and accessibility.

  • Virtual Design: We then use our Homestyler software to create stunning 3D and 4K renderings of your new bathroom. This allows you to see your vision, complete with all your chosen materials and fixtures, before any construction begins.

  • Finalizing the Plan: We finalize the design and scope of work, ensuring every detail is accounted for—from your countertop material to your choice of plumbing fixtures.

Phase 2: The Foundation & Rough-In

Once the design is set, we get to work on the crucial, unseen elements that ensure your bathroom will be structurally sound and last a lifetime.

  • Demolition: We begin by carefully removing the old bathroom and protecting your home from dust and debris.

  • Framing & Insulation: Any necessary framing for new walls, niches, or a curbless shower is completed. This is also when we install proper insulation for sound dampening and thermal comfort.

  • Plumbing & Electrical: We install all the new plumbing and electrical lines for fixtures, lighting, and any smart technology you've chosen. This careful planning ensures that your new bidet, heated floors, and vanity sconces will be ready for the final stage.

Phase 3: The Waterproofing & Finishes

This is where your bathroom starts to take its final form, and we ensure it is protected from moisture.

  • Waterproofing: This is the most critical step for any bathroom. We install a professional waterproofing system, like Schluter-KERDI, to create a sealed, moisture-proof barrier behind all your tile shower walls and flooring.

  • Surface Installation: We install your chosen materials, whether it’s a seamless Onyx Collection shower system or meticulously laid tile. Your heated floor system (Schluter or Uponor) is installed at this stage as well.

  • Cabinetry & Countertops: Your custom cabinetry and countertops are installed, bringing the main aesthetic elements of the room together.

Phase 4: The Final Touches & Reveal

The last phase is where the micro-details transform the space from a beautiful room into your personal sanctuary.

  • Fixtures & Hardware: We install all the final plumbing fixtures, electrical switches, and hardware for your cabinetry and towels.

  • Paint & Lighting: The walls are painted with the perfect color, and all your chosen lighting (sconces, recessed lights, etc.) is fully installed and tested.

  • The Reveal: We complete a final inspection with you, ensuring every detail meets your expectations and our high standards. Then, the space is yours to enjoy.

A bathroom remodel with Ekon Bath is a partnership. We guide you through each phase, ensuring that from initial planning to the final reveal, the process is as rewarding as the final result.

Can you turn a 1980s bathtub into a luxury Art Deco shower? Yes. By combining custom architectural arches, high-flow plumbing for 13 water outlets, and specialized "aging-in-place" safety features, you can transform a dated bathroom into a spa-like "rainforest" sanctuary that increases home value and personal comfort. The Vision: More Than Just a Bathroom When I first met Griff Hubbard through the Rotary Club of Longview, I knew his project would be special. Griff is a man of history, particularly railroad history, and his home reflects that soul. He didn't just want a new shower; he wanted the "crowning achievement" of his home—a space that felt like an Art Deco rainforest. To truly understand Griff’s vision, I did something most contractors don't: I listened to his railroad history podcasts. This allowed us to build a design that wasn't just functional, but deeply personal. Engineering the "Rainforest" Experience The centerpiece of this transformation is the "Rainforest" shower system. To achieve this level of luxury, we had to overcome significant technical hurdles: 13 Water Outlets: We installed a massive array of body sprayers and the largest rain head Ekon Bath has ever commissioned. High-Volume Plumbing: Most older homes aren't built for this much water. We coordinated with specialists to ensure the water pressure and hot water capacity could handle the "rainforest" flow. Custom Art Deco Hardware: When standard handles didn't fit the 1920s aesthetic, we sourced custom hardware and even had a machine shop create a bespoke Art Deco drain cover. Design Details: Where History Meets Luxury Griff’s bathroom is a masterclass in Art Deco design . We replaced the standard square shower entry with a striking architectural archway . This creates a sense of "arriving" at a destination rather than just stepping into a shower. We also prioritized "Aging in Space" —a core value at Ekon Bath. While the shower looks like a high-end spa, it secretly includes reinforced support behind the walls for future safety features, ensuring Griff can enjoy this sanctuary for the next 40 years. The Ekon "Red Carpet" Experience At Ekon Bath, we believe the process should be as beautiful as the result. For Griff, that meant: Daily Cleanliness: We vacuumed and dusted every single afternoon so Griff could live comfortably during the renovation. Above and Beyond: To finish the job, we didn't just clean the bathroom; we power-washed his back patio to leave his entire home better than we found it.
